Our History

In June 1971 the members of Boone Trail Baptist Church met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold F. Ferguson for the purpose of organizing a local church in the Boones Creek community. Boone Trail was officially constituted on October 3, 1971, with 40 charter members.

Sunday School, Discipleship Training, and worship services were held in members’ homes until November 1971 when the church began meeting in the Boones Creek Middle School.

The church purchased six acres of land in Shipley Hollow, Boones Creek community, and in August of 1972 began to build a sanctuary with six Sunday school rooms, a nursery, and a pastor’s study. The building was completed and dedicated on December 20, 1972.

In October 1974 the church called Rev. E. W. Barnes as the first full-time pastor. Within three years the church had to build again and broke ground on an educational building July 31, 1977, which provided 4,100 additional square feet of education space. This building was dedicated on September 20, 1981.

In October 1987 Boone Trail called Ira Cunningham to serve as pastor. Within two years the church purchased ten acres of adjoining land to secure parking space. In 1990 a building was started on the new land and was completed in 1991, providing 5,000 more square feet of education space. By 1992, the church had grown beyond the walls of the Sanctuary and added 12 pews to gain additional seating.

In July 1993 Boone Trail called Darrell Myers as the first full-time minister of youth and music. In May of 1997 Boone Trail broke ground for two new buildings. A 725-seat worship center was completed in September 1998.

In February of 2001 Boone Trail called Wayne Gautney of Mobile, Alabama, as the first full-time minister of preschool and children. A multi-purpose family life center was completed in July of 2002, providing much needed education space, a gym, and a new kitchen.

In March of 2003 Boone Trail called Jeff Connell of Darien, Georgia, as full time Pastor of recreation and evangelism.  Then in July of the same year Boone Trail called Troy Turner as full time Pastor of youth and collegiate ministries. In December, Tracy Pigford was called as Minister of Music coming from Mobile, Alabama.

In June of 2006, Ryan Epps was called as Student Pastor with duties for youth and college.

In August of 2006, Wayne Bledsoe was called as Minister of Adults and Education.

In June of 2007, Dathan Hale was called as Minister of Children and Preschool.

In September of 2008, Randal Helms was called as Senior Pastor.

God’s people here are faithful to serving Jesus Christ, and the Lord is blessing the effort. Continue to work and pray that God might minister to the lives of people in our community through His people at Boone Trail.
